Aurora Players has its auditions approximately 8-10 weeks before each show opens. Audition notices are usually posted on the Home Page with a link to show information, instructions and an audition form. Before the audition, a snapshot is taken of each auditionee and stapled to their form for the director’s reference. Depending on the type of audition, you will be asked to read sides (pages from the script that have been selected by the director) or perform a monologue. For musicals, auditionees are asked to bring sheet music for the song they’ve selected to sing and will also learn some choreography. Newcomers are always welcome!
If you’ve never auditioned and are hesitant, feel free to observe an audition and find out what it’s all about. Some experience is helpful, but Aurora Players is committed to making theater accessible to as many people as possible, and that includes new performers too! In our 85+ years of performing, Aurora Players has had many different kinds of people join our productions, from seasoned performers to those who had never been on stage.
