Ken Ludwig’s Lend Me A Tenor

Lend Me a Tenor is a hilarious farce set in 1930s Cleveland. Chaos ensues when a renowned opera singer goes missing before a crucial performance. Mistaken identities, romantic entanglements, and comedic mishaps abound as the frantic search for the missing tenor unfolds.
Ken Ludwig’s first play, Lend Me a Tenor, was produced on Broadway and in London by Andrew Lloyd Webber. It won three Tony Awards and four Drama Desk Awards and was called “one of the classic comedies of the 20th century” by The Washington Post. It’s an uproarious comedy of errors filled with witty dialogue, madcap situations, and unexpected twists, guaranteeing nonstop laughter and entertainment for audiences seeking rib-tickling fun.

Director: Mark Eckstein

Mark Eckstein broke into theater in the 4th grade, when he took the role of The Narrator in his summer camp’s production of Oliver! His first directing gig was High Notes and Fast Words: A Gilbert and Sullivan Sampler, for WCBS Players in Warsaw, NY. Other directorial credits include: The Mikado; Brigadoon; Your Lucky Strike Hit Parade; The Odd Couple (female version); A Night of Comedic One-Acts (reader’s theater); and Physical Therapy, which won an award for Best Short Production from the Theatre Association of New York State. His first stage appearance with Aurora Players was in 2007’s production of Oliver! (with a bigger part than 4th grade). He is a past member of the Aurora Players’ Board of Directors. Currently, he serves on AP’s Volunteer Committee and is the Front of House Coordinator for all productions.

Associate Director: Mary Eckstein

Mary has been active in community theater since 1978. She has worked with theater groups in Wyoming, Livingston, Genesee, Allegany and Erie Counties. Mary’s first love is to be on stage, but as a veteran of community theater, has performed in several capacities including directing, choreographing, costuming, backstage hand, as well as administrative and committee work. Mary is pleased to be working on Lend Me a Tenor with her “other half,” Mark Eckstein to help him bring the show to life.
